Hip Hop

It all began in Bronx, New York City.

The African Americans were considered to be the marginalized class in the early 1970s and they began an underground movement called ‘Hip-Hop’ where they would have house parties and neighbourhood block party events, held outdoors.In the 1980s T.V. Shows & films like Soul Train, Beat Street & Wild Style made hip-hop commercial and it gradually gained popularity all over the world with movies like Step-Up, Planet B-Boy and many more.


Main Style

Hip-Hop is all about breaking, locking & popping.

Breaking was the first ever hip-hop dance style.It usually involves either a one-on-one battle between B-boy & B-Girl or a battle between two crews-Teams of dancers.

Locking refers to ‘freezing or a sudden pause’ that involves locking in a place & after a brief freeze, moving again.

Popping involves quick contraction & relaxation of muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body, referred to as a pop.
